Welcome to The Barcelona Diaries! My name is Soledad Abella, a writer and marketing professional. This blog was born to help international residents and curious travelers experience the real Barcelona, from finding your first apartment to discovering the best Sunday vermut spot.

The Barcelona Diaries is an independent online publication founded in 2017 and focused on living, working, and traveling in Barcelona and Catalonia. It features guides, neighborhood breakdowns, restaurant and coworking reviews, relocation resources, and cultural insights written from first-hand experience.

All content on The Barcelona Diaries is written or edited by me, based on personal experience and verified information. I regularly update guides to reflect the current local situation, regulations, costs, and trends.

More about my story

I moved to Barcelona back in 2013 for what was supposed to be a one year stay, but from the moment I set foot here I knew I had to stay. Why? Because this city is always alive and buzzing with a unique energy, it offers creative inspiration all around, sunny weather all year long, and an unparalleled work-life balance. I’ve lived in multiple countries and, personally, I haven’t found this anywhere else.

The Barcelona Diaries brings together my love for the city and my passion for storytelling. It’s where I share insider tips, practical guides, and cultural insights, drawing on both my life here and my experience as a communicator.

Beyond The Barcelona Diaries, I’ve spent over seven years working in marketing and communications both in-house and as a freelancer. I also co-wrote a Barcelona guidebook published by Lonely Planet, bringing insider research and storytelling to an international audience.
